Nigrita is a very large, 80-year-old Galapagos tortoise that lives at the Zoo Zrichin Switzerland.

She is also a brand-new mom.

Although 80 might seem old to start a family, for this type of tortoise, it’s completely normal.

In fact, Galapagos tortoises can live to be well over 100 years old!

Although giving birth at this age is not uncommon, the fact that Nigrita was able to have nine healthy hatchlings is something of a miracle.

Whyare these little tortoises so special?

The Galapagos tortoise is on the endangered species list.

Nigrita is currently in a breeding program at the Zoo Zrichin order to help her species move away from the brink of extinction!

Why do humans feel responsible for helping the Galapagos tortoise get off the endangered species list?

Well, that’s because humans may very well be the reason they’re on it in the first place!

Humans first traveling to the Galapagos Islands realized that turtle meat was perfect for long boat rides.

People also brought animals with them that quickly grew accustomed to the taste of tortoise eggs.

The incredible work being done at the Zoo Zrichis a big step on the path to helping with the Galapagos tortoise’s population problem.

We wish Nigrita and her nine babies the best of luck!

Juniper is unique for many reasons, including her love of her adopted brother, Moose. Moose is an Australian shepherd mix that was also rescued at a very young age. Surprisingly, the two of them have become best friends.

Jessika warned in an Instagram post to Juniper’s fans that having a fox for a pet often means you may not be able to own other animalsdue to the fox’s natural instincts to hunt. Juniper has made an exception for her big, furry brother, and tries her best to get his attention whenever she can!

Juniper the fox and Moose the dog were both rescued at a very young age.

Although nature says these two shouldn’t be friends, they had other plans.

Juniper is absolutely crazy about her pal Moose and makes sure he knows it!

“Juniper is in love with Moose and spends all day trying to get as much of his attention as possible,” Juniper’s mom, Jessika, told Bored Panda.

The unlikely pair sleeps together, cuddles together, and eats together. Juniper even sits on her doggy pal, which is apparently a compliment.

“Foxes put their butts on things they want to own or think is theirs,” Jessika explained. “Moose gets sat on daily.”

Jessika did warn Juniper’s Instagram fans that this relationship, though adorable, is not common.

A lot of thought needs to go into adoptinga fox as a pet.

Juniper and Moose are evidence that animals don’t always listen to the laws of nature, however.

Their friendly relationship has everything to do with how they were raised.

“I brought Juniper home when she was only five weeks old. Moose was raised around all kinds of animals so when she ran up to him, tail wagging and crying, they were instantly friends,” Jessika told Bored Panda.

Whatever the reason, we’re happy these two were able to build such a tight bond. It certainly makes for some adorable photos!

The Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary in the western part of Africa is home to a dozen chimpanzees.

Some of them, including Chippie and Delilah, were rescued as orphans.

Hunting and human wildlife conflicts are not uncommon in this part of the world.

Luckily for chimps like Chippie and Delilah, these animals can live worry-free, knowing the caring staff at the sanctuary islooking out for them.

The one thing that no staff member can protect the chimps from, however, is the elements.

Living in a tropical climate means hot weather all year round, even in the wintertime.

There is little relief from the hot sun, until the rains come in.

Chippie and Delilah spend their days hanging out by their little pool, even when it’s dry.

“The rains are delayed this year and the area around Tacugama is very dry at the moment,” Sofie Meilvang, program manager at Tacugama, told LittleThings.

“Due to water shortage, we can’t fill the chimpanzees’ pool, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t hang out and relax in there,”Meilvang explained.

Each day, they stand by just hoping to take a dip to cool off from the heat.

When the rain finally hits, they are ready to go!

The adorable chimps spend their days splashing each other and cooling off fromthe tropical heat.

And the waterparties don’t end until the little pools dry up again. But even then, they can’t wait for the rain to come once again!

Woman Uses Snakes And Other Strange Critters As Therapy Pets For Seniors

Therapy animals can come in all shapes and forms, although they tend to be the cute and cuddly furry friends like dogs and cats. But occasionally, we see some peculiar animals comfort humans old and young, proving that there is no wrong animal to have as a therapy pet. This woman’s pet turkey was there for her after her husband’s death, and this therapy kangaroo brings joy toveterans!

But slithery and sometimes slimy critters deserve a little love, too. Many people might believe they would make unusual therapy animals, but one woman is changing that by bringing these slippery creatures into a senior home and educating the residents about these interesting animals.

Pamela brings these seniors little “gifts” wrapped up in pillow cases, but when she reaches in, you’ll probably be shocked by what she pulls out in each “bag” is a snake!

They’re harmless, and some are even cute! The seniors aren’t afraid to be approached by a handler with a snake in hand. Many are simply curious, if not thrilled to be near such fascinating creatures.

Snakes aren’t the only animals Pamela brings to the senior home. Watch the clip to find out more about these unusual therapy pets!

Liddy Bug is a beautiful baby deer and her human is doing his best to give her some milk so she can grow up to be strong. But it seems like her much bigger sister Duchess wants to get a bit of her own!

In fact, it seems like Duchess hasn’t really learned the importance ofsharing, especially with your younger siblings! As the two struggle to lick some milk out of the same bottle, it’s a true wonder how the man behind the camera managed to keep from laughing out loud.

Finally, Duchess wanders away, but just when things finally seemed calm again, you won’t believe who shows up with an angry “hiss!” It seems like little Liddy Bug will never get the bottle of milk she deserves.

Thankfully, her humans are taking very good care of her, we can’t wait to see her when she’s grown up and can push her big sister out of the way for some doggy treats!
